These Dangers of Immunization Myths Need to be Known

Immunization is important to prevent the arrival of diseases that can endanger the child's condition in the future. Unfortunately, several issues regarding the dangers of immunization have been successful enough to make parents hesitate to give immunizations to their children. In fact, until an anti-immunization community is formed in the community. Then, what is the actual fact of immunization? Immunization is the process of forming a person's immunity or resistance to disease by administering vaccines. The vaccine itself is a biological agent consisting of bacteria or viruses that cause disease that has been weakened or killed. When the vaccine is injected into the body, the immune system will actively produce antibodies to protect the body from disease. The immune system also has the ability to remember and recognize microorganisms, both bacteria and viruses. So that when there are microorganisms that actually enter the body, the immune system will immediately attack it and keep the body from getting sick.

Myths About the Dangers of Immunization

The emergence of myths or issues related to the dangers of immunization, certainly not without reason. Some cases appear shortly after the child is given immunizations. Although this case occurs only in a small proportion of children, in fact this is enough to cause anxiety among parents. Some of the following facts may be the answer to your doubts.

  • MMR (Mumps, Measles, and Rubella) is a type of vaccine that is familiar with the danger of immunization rumors, which can cause autism. However, there is not enough evidence to support the statement. One study even showed that the MMR vaccine did not affect a child's risk of autism.

The reason, diseases such as whooping cough (pertussis), tetanus, and diphtheria can attack your baby if you do not immediately get DPT immunization. The myth that develops related to DPT immunization is sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). • Immunizations containing thimerosal preservatives are more risky

  • Parents claim that vaccines using thimerosal preservatives (preservatives made from mercury) can be harmful to children. Claims on this statement are not reasonable, because since 1930 the preservative has been used in several vaccines and has not been proven to cause health problems in children. Nevertheless, starting in 1999 a number of health institutions in the world, agreed to reduce or not use preservative thimerosal in vaccines.
  • Too much immunization is not good for the child's immune system

  • Another dangerous immunization myth that is enough to make parents worried is that giving too much immunization to a child can weaken the immune system. But don't worry, because a healthy baby's immune system is able to receive immunizations well, even up to more than 100,000 at a time. So, it can be said that mandatory immunization, is still classified as safe for the child's immune system.
The danger of immunization is basically limited to mild side effects that are not harmful, such as pain at the injection site, mild fever, or causing the baby to become fussy. Even so, you still need to consult a pediatrician if your child experiences serious side effects after immunization, because it might be caused by an allergic reaction to the ingredients in the vaccine. Remember not to miss a child's immunization schedule, because immunization is very important for the protection of your child's health.
